Growing with LIMA
Growing with LIMA
At LIMA, we are passionate about equipping all staff with the tools they need to develop their talents further. It is important to us that people are given the opportunity to grow with LIMA and investment in training is just one of the ways we are able to make this possible. We caught up with Finance Assistant, Amy, to discuss where her journey with LIMA began and how, through hard work and with great support, she has been able to progress into areas that she had not previously been able to access.
Tell us a little bit about your background
I started out in a very different role, working in telemarketing; I was on the phones for about 4 ½ years before progressing to the position of Account Manager. However, after the company announced a significant number of redundancies, I felt that it was time for a change. I had already been aware of LIMA and the work they do so, when an Admin Assistant role became available, I decided to apply.
Describe your LIMA journey so far…
Having started as an Admin Assistant in April 2017, it wasn’t long before LIMA spotted my potential and in September of the same year, I was offered a promotion into the Finance Department. It was a role I had not previously considered but gave me opportunities to both develop my knowledge from previous roles as well as learn a completely new set of skills.
Shortly after beginning my new role as Finance Assistant, LIMA invested in my development further by giving me the opportunity to take up an apprenticeship. In January 2018, I began studying for my AAT qualification.
Tell us about your course
I am currently studying for an AAT qualification through an apprenticeship that allows me to do a majority of my studying outside of the classroom environment. LIMA enable me to attend college for a ½-day each week as well as providing another ½-day a week for in-house training. This can involve learning new topics and areas of work within the company, as well as time to work through the AAT course and study materials.
LIMA have been great and the whole finance team have been so supportive since I began studying. As some of my colleagues are also working towards similar qualifications, we are able to work together as a team to share knowledge and encourage each other through our coursework and exams.
I’m very much looking forward to completing my course and seeing what the future holds for me, here at LIMA.
What do you get up to outside of work?
Recently I have been preparing to participate in the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk 2018. The Alzheimer’s Society is a charity I feel very passionate about as I have witnessed, first-hand, the effects that Dementia can have, not just on the individual but their wider family and friends. Until there is a cure, the Alzheimer’s Society hopes to ensure that those who are affected are supported and accepted within their community. I walk for my Grandad and for a world without Dementia.
