Our CEO Lisa Thornton sat down with our friends over at Total Excellence Centre as part of their SME Spotlight series to chat about her successes, what challenges face the tech world and where she sees the future of the industry.
What were your reasons for starting LIMA?
I created the business due to a desire to deliver true customer service excellence and in a male dominated industry, I felt real passion to succeed in an industry that had become largely commoditised with technology.
From the outset I wanted to build a business at the forefront of intelligent IT, to transform the business and make a real and effective contribution to client success
How different was the business world/IT back in 1997 compared to today?
Technology is ever evolving, and so new innovations are, today, commonplace. The pace of innovation never ceases to amaze me and as a business we have constantly evolved to meet customer demand whilst committing to our role of designing technology to drive the industry forward.
To what do you attribute your phenomenal success as a company?
Our tailored, customer-centric approach to IT is unique in the marketplace and our continued success is testament to how we work hard to understand a client’s challenges or objectives. A one size fits all approach is not our style and ultimately doesn’t deliver results.
You’ve described LIMA as “a people led business” – could you expand on this?
Being a talented team of wonderful people has been my greatest business achievement so far. Our senior management team and staff all share my passion to provide an exceptional level of service. We are a “people” business first and foremost and they are all instrumental in our ambitious growth plans.
Do you have a great example of employee development/progression within LIMA?
That’s a tough question. I’m really proud of everyone in the team and we actively promote career progression across the entire business.
One team member who springs to mind is Ryan Ratcliffe. Ryan joined LIMA as a Network Sales Specialist, progressed within seven years to Head of Sales, and has recently been appointed Chief Sales Officer, what a fabulous achievement.
Who is your longest serving employee?
Our longest serving employee is Louise Parrott – she holds the position of Purchasing Manager and is an integral part of the business success. I can’t imagine LIMA without her.
Tell us about your experiences working with Total Excellence Centre?
I first came into contact with Total Excellence Centre as I was trying to scale my management team and also focus on making a real commitment to individual progression, their profiling tool allows me to support individuals in the right way and nurture talent. I’m a big believer in progression from within and keeping our own talent engaged through training. Total Excellence Centre offer tailored developments to support with wider needs of our business, like us, they understand that one size doesn’t fit all.Back to News & Events
