December has been an exciting month in terms of the opportunities that we have the pleasure to give back to our local community.

We have positioned Reverse Advent Calendars throughout the office together with a donation area for the Salford Next Step Project, who offer support to young people and families that are leaving care and allow them to acquire the skills needed to live independently. We are collecting non-perishables, toys and essentials that can be donated to those in need this Christmas.

Alongside this, members of our team have recently returned from a visit to Salford Loaves and Fishes where we were able to donate over 200 LIMA mugs filled with sachets of soup, to be distributed amongst the homeless and vulnerable that attend the drop-in centre over the festive period. Salford Loaves and Fishes hope to empower people by providing them with hope and guidance, as well as distributing the essentials that they may need in terms of food, clothing and toiletries.

We feel very strongly about supporting both local and national charities and as such each year we hold an employee vote to nominate our charities of the year; throughout 2019 LIMA will be raising funds for the British Heart Foundation and Mind. Below is some information on how these charities work towards achieving their vision:

With 7 million people in the UK living with heart and circulatory diseases the British Heart Foundation funds over £100 million of research each year to help develop future treatments, cures and means of prevention.

Not only do they help to fund pioneering research, but they also hope to influence key decision makers in policy making, to ensure that advances in research and technology are reflected in the treatments that patients are able to receive.

Mind aim to make sure that support and respect is given to all those suffering from mental health problems. As well as offering advice and information, they campaign to raise awareness and improve the services available to the 1 in 4 people who will suffer from mental health problems each year.

By providing reliable information, they allow people to better understand their condition and the options available to them. Mind offer professional training within the workplace, including Mental Health First Aid and bespoke training sessions.

LIMA are also proud to work with/alongside companies that utilise their skills to make a positive impact on the community. We were recently made aware of the great work that The Big Lottery Fund and Southway Housing are involved in, alongside the Mayor of Greater Manchester and Age UK Salford to make the area the UK’s best place to grow old.

Having supported Age UK Salford as one of our long term charities, seeing how the funds raised can be used to impact communities reiterates the importance of supporting such important causes.

Keep an eye out for the many activities we will be participating in throughout the year and if possible please help us raise much needed funds for these fabulous charities.
